LAB DAY 3: Food with starch
STARCH
- Is a complex carbohydrate (in spanish it means "almidón").
- If we add idocline (such as lugol or betadine) in food and it turns black, it has starch; if it does not turns black, it doesn´t have starch.
We did an experiment to know if the ham had starch or not and we used three types of ham:
- York (jamón york)
- Cooked (jamón cocido)
- All natural
In the experiment, we added betadine to each type of ham. And then we could see:
- York→ turned black so that means it cointained starch.
- Cooked→ it stayed the same so it didn´t have starch.
- All natural→ stayed the same so it didn´t have starch.
